iExplorer (formerly iPhone Explorer) is an app which allows you to:

  • retrieve photos easily from your iPhone/ iPad / iPod Touch
  • use the iPhone (etc) like an external flash drive
  • browse files and folders on it
  • delete sensitive items before giving the phone away

Just download the app to a computer, then plug in the device. This program even works on Windows as well as Mac!

A few years ago it was free, but no longer. Licenses are $35, 2 for $50 or 5 for $70.
