Split screen on iPad

In 2017 Apple introduced the split-screen feature on iPads as part of iOS 11.
This makes multi-tasking easier on the iPad, e.g. dragging links or images from one app to another, whereas before you would have had to copy & paste.
AppleInsider demonstrated this well with a YouTube video.
However, the features are limited on some older iPads (see the comments under the video).
Also, if you have one of the smaller iPads, the smaller app window may only give you the iPhone version of the app, rather than the full iPad functionality.
