This page is used to display news items on the front page; these can be links to new articles that are posted, external news items that are of interest, etc. This portion of the site can be used like a "micro-blog".
Please place items in chronological order. Limit description to one sentence, using the concise style shown below, and start with the date (using our preferred format of "March 6, 2010").
Note: old news items are archived on the page CATUG news archive.
  • Here are three software bundles worth looking at:
    • Until December 16, 2011: BundleHunt.com with Little Snitch, DEVONthink Personal, MacPilot and some creative/web designer tools, all for $50.
    • Until December 20, 2011: ProductiveMacs.com includes LaunchBar (some use this as their primary interface with the Mac) and Default Folder (a wonderful addition to Open and Save dialogs). $40.
    • Until December 21, 2011: MUPromo.com from MacUpdate including such heavyweights as Techtool Pro (with a disc image to make it bootable), email app PostBox 3 and Mac DVDRipper Pro. $50 buys these and more.
  • October 20, 2011: Quick Tip # 5: Beware fake updaters for software which may pop up with a familiar logo, e.g. after clicking a video in social media. If in doubt, don't give it your password! Go to the official site (such as adobe.com) and check there for updates.
  • October 14, 2011: Quick Tip # 4: in Address Book, set up a Smart Group of all cards that are not in another group, to help you classify new contacts. Smart Groups are also the way to search a specific field.
  • September 2011: invited CATUG members to join a separate prayer list.
  • May 30, 2011: Quick Tip # 3: extend your iPhone battery life by switching off subtle features that you probably don't need.
  • May 12, 2011: Quick Tip # 2: DO NOT install MacProtector, the latest name for fake antivirus software previously named MacDefender and MacSecurity. Just google the name and you will see plenty of advice on removing it. This one looks thorough.
  • March 8, 2011: Tim Butler invited CATUG members to submit designs for a new CATUG logo.
  • March 3, 2011: CATUG members came up with plenty of reasons to buy a new iPad!
  • February 21, 2011: Leonard Durrenberger, a longstanding contributor who served briefly on the new Board of CATUG, went to be with the Lord. Rest in peace, Leonard.
  • February 20, 2011: The wiki moved to wiki.catug.org.
  • February 19, 2011: CMUG, the Christian Macintosh User Group, is going to become CATUG: the Christian Apple Technology User Group. The two mailing lists were merged back into one Mac Ministry List, hosted by Tim Butler using Mailman list software.
  • February 12, 2011: Jesse Sng handed over the Presidency to Tim Butler, aided by a Board and Operational Board.
  • January 27, 2011: due to a high number of account creations and spam links, the wiki had to be rolled back to remove all of that. To prevent this from happening again, users are no longer permitted to create their own accounts. Contact wikiservant@catug.org.
