Welcome to the CATUG wiki, an interactive website of the Christian Apple Technology User Group, which is the definitive source for advice on using Apple Mac computers and other Apple technologies in Christian ministry.

This wiki is intended mainly as a repository of the most helpful information shared on our email list. If you are new to wikis, start at Using this wiki. Today's Date: May 4, 2012

  • May 3, 2012: we had a temporary hitch with the Mac Ministry Mailing list, but it was back up and running by the end of the day. Thank you for your understanding during the outage.
  • April 6, 2012: Quick Tip # 6: run Software Update from the  menu to check that you have installed Apple's security updates. The latest update for OS X 10.6 & 10.7 can protect your Mac from the Flashback trojan. See this MacObserver article if you might be infected already.
  • February 22, 2012: "Do Not Track Plus" stops unwanted tracking by advertisers or social networks, and is one of our recommended Safari Extensions and Firefox add-ons.
  • February 20, 2012: CATUG warns people not to install a widely-advertised app called MacKeeper. See our list of recommended utilities for better alternatives.
  • January 9, 2012: We set up a new Facebook page.
  • January 8, 2012: We started using the new CATUG logo.
  • December 30. 2011: Start the new year with a Bible reading plan for your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
  • October 20, 2011: Quick Tip # 5: Beware fake updaters for software which may pop up with a familiar logo, e.g. after clicking a video in social media. If in doubt, don't give it your password! Go to the official site (such as adobe.com) and check there for updates.
  • October 14, 2011: Quick Tip # 4: in Address Book, set up a Smart Group of all cards that are not in another group, to help you classify new contacts. Smart Groups are also the way to search a specific field.
  • October 10, 2011: We moved our blog to http://macsnmin.catug.org.
  • September 2011: We invited CATUG members to join a separate prayer list.
  • May 30, 2011: Quick Tip # 3: extend your iPhone battery life by switching off subtle features that you probably don't need.
  • May 12, 2011: Quick Tip # 2: DO NOT install MacProtector, the latest name for fake antivirus software previously named MacDefender and MacSecurity. Just google the name and you will see plenty of advice on removing it. This one looks thorough.
